PawLife Asks, Are These Dogs Really Smiling?

In 1988, singer-songwriter and cult favorite Edie Brickell (also known for being Paul Simon’s wife) wrote the lyrics:

I’m not aware of too many things

I know what I know if you know what I mean

Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box

Religion is the smile on a dog

The smile on a dog! And who among us wouldn’t feel our hearts lift in joy from a beaming furry friend? Heartwarming and special, a dog’s smile is infectious.

Although scientists might be reluctant to admit that animals have feelings like we do, you can’t help but think dogs are keenly aware that they are communicating happiness and laughter when they show us a toothy grin.  One scientist, world renounced animal behaviorist and autism advocate, Temple Grandin explains:

“You’ve got to get away from words if you want to understand any animal. (They) think in pictures… in smells… in touch sensations…”

Below we have followed Dr. Grandin’s advice.  We have gotten away from words and compiled the top ten pictures of smiling dogs. We may never really know what is going on in our pets’ heads, but for the moment we can enjoy our canine companions in these hilarious photos.
